Introducing New Improved Dura-Rubber High-Build

Shell Oil Drilling Platform 

Shell Oil contacted Rubberizeit while evaluating a protective coating for an offshore drilling platform located off the Texas coast. The application presented several demanding requirements due to the platform’s remote location and harsh operating environment.

The coating needed to be low-VOC, both for personnel safety on the platform and to meet requirements associated with transporting materials by air. It also needed to withstand exposure to oils, chemicals, saltwater, and the severe conditions common to offshore operations, while providing a non-static surface suitable for the working environment.

After evaluating and testing Dura-Rubber, the coating met the performance requirements for the application.

Dura-Rubber was subsequently applied to the platform’s roof deck, creating a seamless protective membrane designed to provide long-term resistance to moisture, chemicals, oils, and environmental exposure.

This project demonstrates Dura-Rubber’s ability to perform in demanding industrial and marine environments where low VOCs, chemical resistance, waterproofing, and durability are critical.

A Flexible Waterproofing System for a Moving Concrete Deck

Public Storage in Denver contacted us after experiencing persistent water intrusion through the concrete floor of its second-story storage facility. During the winter months, vehicles brought snow and moisture into the building. As the snow melted, water found its way through cracks in the concrete deck and leaked into the storage units below.

Previous attempts to solve the problem with epoxy coatings and other repair systems had failed. The underlying challenge was movement in the concrete. Rigid coatings could not accommodate that movement, allowing cracks and leak paths to return. The resulting water intrusion made affected lower-level storage units difficult or impossible to rent.

The Dura-Rubber High-Build System

Rather than simply coating over the existing cracks, the project used a multi-layer system designed to create a continuous, flexible waterproof membrane over the concrete deck.

The concrete was first properly prepared and primed to promote adhesion. Existing cracks and problem areas were repaired using Dura-Rubber Patching Compound, creating a sound surface for the waterproofing system.

A Dura-Rubber base coat was then applied, followed by Dura-Rubber High-Build to provide the heavier flexible membrane needed across the deck. Unlike rigid epoxy systems, High-Build is designed to remain flexible, allowing the coating system to better accommodate normal substrate movement while maintaining its waterproof barrier.

The system was completed with a Dura-Rubber color coat for the finished appearance and an acrylic sealer as the final protective layer.

Built for More Than Appearance

This project demonstrates why High-Build is particularly useful where a conventional floor coating isn't enough. The objective wasn't simply to make the concrete look better—it was to create a flexible waterproofing system capable of protecting occupied space below the deck.

For the Denver facility, that meant addressing cracking, concrete movement, winter snowmelt, and recurring water intrusion with one integrated coating system:

Prime → Patch → Base Coat → High-Build Waterproof Membrane → Color Coat → Acrylic Sealer

The result is a seamless protective system designed to keep water on the surface instead of allowing it to migrate through the concrete into the storage units below.

Project Location: Lazy River Pool – Branson Hotel, Missouri
Problem
The hotel's lazy river pool was experiencing structural issues:
* Visible Cracks:
* Cracks had formed throughout the pool surface.
* Persistent Water Loss: Resulting in higher utility bills and constant refilling.
* StructuralDeterioration: Threatened the long-term usability of the pool.
* Unsustainable Repairs: Previous patching methods were temporary and expensive.
*Environmental Concerns: Management sought a non-toxic, eco-friendly coating solution.
Solution:
Dura-Rubber + Dura-Rubber High Build SystemTo address the pool's challenges, the hotel implemented a full restoration using the Dura-Rubber system:
1. Surface Preparation: Pool was drained and pressure-washed to remove contaminants and debris. A primer coat was applied to ensure optimal adhesion.
2. Application of Dura-Rubber High Build: Two thick base coats of Dura-Rubber High Build were spray-applied. (see application instructions for High-Build) These coats eliminated the need for detailed crack or corner prep and created a durable foundation.
3. Topcoat Finish: Once the High Build layers dried, a Dura-Rubber topcoat in Blue was applied. The result a seamless, waterproof, and visually appealing surface.

ECO VILLAGE PROJECT OF FRESNO
A Green Solution to Homelessness

The Eco Village Project of Fresno provides safe and dignified living spaces in an environmentally sustainable manner, giving each resident the educational, emotional and physical tools, caring support and training to escape the cycle of homelessness.

The ECO Village project of Fresno with the help of The University of California at Fresno’s school of Architecture and the school of Construction Management. Designed and built a prototype homeless shelter to be used in the Fresno ECO Village. Currently pre-manufactured sheds have been used. This will be the first designed and built specifically for homeless shelters. Designed as a transitional housing solution for the homeless only available on a weekly basis. One of the design criteria is easy maintenance. The interior would need to be cleaned and disinfected weekly.

To do this the interior was totally waterproofed using Dura-Rubber. All corners and seams had reinforcement fabric applied. The interior was coated with 20mils of Dura-Rubber and a drain was installed in one corner of the shelter. Using the Dura-Rubber they were able to add color to the interior that was durable and waterproof.
